Why I Chose to Build One More Day Organization
Helping One Another Pick Up the Pieces
One of the main reasons why I founded the One More Day Organization was based on some of the personal things I experienced. When you are going through a storm in life, the one thing you feel is isolation. You feel that you are the only person in the world going through something at that time. I went through hell for a long time. And when I thought the storm was over, it was just beginning. I fell through the bottom of the well of depression and anxiety...Until I decided to dig deep and find out what was going on. When I did, I became more and more sensitive to the world around me. Yet, when I started paying attention to the world around me, I began to see how many people were suffering, deteriorating emotionally and didn't even notice it. After releasing my book "Bleeding Volume 1. The Arrival, I was surprised by how many of my readers related to me and pain. It gave them a reality check and me as well. Volume 1 was a very abstract book. I used many metaphors and made the past and present actual places. I was afraid to tell what I really through, until I released Bleeding Vol.2 "The Backburner" It speaks of my abusive relationship, my drug use all the way to self-mutilation. I have recovered, yet everyday is a struggle. So now, I'm on a mission to pick up the peices and move on to the life I was meant to live. I have also found others who want to go on the journey of healing and helping others reach their potential. I know I haven't reached my full potential yet, that is why OMD is not only a new organization, but a construction site where we help each other pick up the peices so we can be complete again. We are workers on the move, constantly finding new peices to add onto our lives. We are working for the betterment of our society, ourselves and our future. Everyday we are learning new things about ourselves, weak areas that need strength so that we will be able to heal the world one person at a time. You can also join us by being willing to dig and find some missing peices that belong in your life that will make you whole. Peace and Love, Candace Thompson Founder and President
We Have Huge Plans
While on my journey of life I have seen and experienced many new things and have met brilliant new people along the way. I ended up with a job at a mental institution. The mind is the only thing you have and when its gone, there is nothing left. I have seen some patients in horrible situations, and the sad part is that a large percent of them will die there. This inspired me to start a group home through OMD. There are many kinds to open and we will elaborate collectively on the decision. Also I have observed the condition of our youth and also the condition of our school system. So I have created the BTC Program. "The bottom is too crowded so there is no option but to rise" is the motto. This program is created to for Junior High kids and up who lack support from family and peers. We will also help those with substance abuse, physical abuse and mental abuse. There will also be a tutoring program available for K-8 (reading and math). In order to stop cycles we must first take care of ourselves and give back to the community because there seems to be a famine in the land. I am very excited about the future of OMD and hope that you are as well.
The Homeless--A Big Deal to OMD
Already, we are working hard to break the cycle of homelessness. We have big plans for them too. Homeless shelters get full--fast, therefore causing many to sleep on the street. We plan to build improved, seperate homeless shelters for men, women and children...but combined in one building. As for today it doesn't hurt to still give clothing and food. We also give donations to Convoy of Hope (COH), a non-profit organization which gives food, disaster relief, job fairs and other beneficiary things to people all over the world. Just to name a few of the places COH has been: Europe, US., Euraisa, Africa, and other places around the world. Not only are we reaching out to those in the United States, but those in other countries as well. Since OMD can't go to those parts of the world, we have join with those who can!
Children Today--Our Future Tomorrow
Today, children are just as troubled as the adults are. OMD is concerned about this. Mothers and fathers are absent, and if they are present most are misleading their children. 7% of adolescents are already alcoholics. Something has to be done! As of right now, we are giving as many clothes as we can to kids all year round. They are also entitled to the food and free dinners we have to offer. Yet, they too are included in our future projects. We are working on building a center for adolescents who have ran away from home, or children who cannot function normally in their environment. Plus, soon there will be homework help and various activities for those who look to the streets because of boredom. So how do we plan to achieve this? With your donations, prayers, and with our new program BTC.
